India’s first gold medal in the current edition of the Commonwealth Games was won by Mirabai Chanu in the women’s 49kg weightlifting final at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022. She succeeded in lifting 84 kg (snatch) on her first try and then 88 kg on her second. She failed at her third 90kg try. She lifted 109 kg to begin the clean and jerk round and then 113 kg to finish. Her third attempt at 115 kg, however, was unsuccessful.
Cricketer Amit Mishra reacted to Mirabai’s Gold medal success in the current edition of Birmingham Commonwealth Games, and stated that “Our women are no lesser than the men”
