“Rashtrapatni” row: Congress MP Adhir Chowdhury questions BJP on dragging Sonia Gandhi for his mistakes

In an effort to quell the outrage, Congress leader AR Chowdhury eventually expressed regret for his earlier remarks regarding President Droupadi Murmu.

“I can’t even think of insulting the President. It was just a mistake. If the President felt bad, I will personally meet her & apologize. They can hang me if they want. I am ready to get punished but why is she (Sonia Gandhi) being dragged in this”, says Congress leader AR Chowdhury here on Thursday.

Earlier today Adhir Chowdhury denied apologizing BJP for his mistake and said “There is no question of apologizing. I had mistakenly said ‘Rashtrapatni’, now if you want to hang me for it, then you can, the ruling party in a deliberate design trying to make mountain out of a molehill.”

Social media users were able to hear Chowdhury referring to Murmu as “Rashtrapatni” in a video clip. He added that the Opposition MPs would attempt to march to Rashtrapati Bhawan once more on Thursday, saying that “India’s Rashtrapatni” was for everyone.

While protesting the “misuse” of organisations like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the suspension of opposition MPs from both Houses of Parliament, the opposition was apprehended on Wednesday and placed in police vehicles.
