Despite the lack of networks, India has seen an upsurge in 5G smartphone sales.
India’s thirst for 5G network adoption is increasing as demand for 5G handsets intensifies. Despite the fact that India has yet to experience the next generation of technology, customers are increasingly interested in purchasing 5G smartphones in order to prepare for the benefits that the 5G wave will provide. According to the respected research organization International Data Corporation (IDC), the percentage of 5G-enabled devices in overall smartphone sales will reach 20-25 percent this year. According to another joint analysis by Realme and Counterpoint Research, even in the absence of a 5G network, the percentage of 5G smartphone sales in India reached 7% last year and is anticipated to achieve 21% this year.
The pricing of 5G smartphones directly competes with the pricing of 4G smartphone variants
Competitive pricing with 5G variations is one of the primary factors for booming smartphone sales in India. Xiaomi, OnePlus, Apple, and other well-known smartphone companies are now selling 5G devices in the mid-premium and premium pricing ranges over INR 30,000.
Oppo and Realme, on the other hand, have already released 5G smartphones in the Rs 15,000 pricing bracket. According to Prabhu Ram, the chairman of industry intelligence firm Cybermedia Research (CMR), many customers chose 5G cellphones to be future-ready, while a smaller portion of the population is doing so to make a fashion statement.
5G is considered a luxury feature in India
According to CMR, 5G readiness is one of India’s top three purchase factors, alongside battery life and smartphone brand images. According to one of the analysts, 5G is a premium feature in India that people choose to be future-ready. Brands such as Oppo and Realme are already promoting 5G as a selling point and producing inexpensive 5G smartphones under INR 15,000 in India.
In addition, 5G phone sales are estimated to account for roughly 32% of total sales in CY 2022. According to Realme, 4G took four years to reach 200 annual shipping units, however, 5G achieved the goal in half the time, which is astounding given the worldwide slaughter in 2020.
