BMC delays to provide educational kit to students

The BMC  failed to provide kids with instructional kits on schedule even after 15 years of the scheme. The contractors now have until July 31 to deliver the remaining kits, according to a deadline imposed by the company’s education department. However, the children will have to wait until next month to receive their shoes and socks.

The BMC started giving students 27 educational materials in an effort to entice more students to join in civic-run schools. On the first day of school, all of these supplies should be delivered to the students. However, since the program’s inception in 2007, the distribution procedure has been delayed. On June 13 of this year, all civic-run schools reopened, however most of the items were delayed.

“We have served notices to the contractors and asked them to complete the distribution by July 31. While paying the bills, the contractors will be penalised for the delay as per the rule. Shoes will be given by next month, but the distribution of all kits will be completed by August 10, said BMC education officer, Rajesh Kankal.

2.98 lakh children are enrolled in 1,150 civic-run schools at the moment. The BMC has set aside Rs 7 crore for educational supplies like books, tiffin boxes, raincoats, umbrellas, water bottles, shoes, and socks, among other things. The civic organisation chose to alter the outfit this year. Additionally, the BMC paid each student in Classes 8 through 10 Rs 270 so they could purchase their own umbrellas.
