“We haven’t got the results in the World Cups but that doesn’t mean we were playing bad cricket,” says Indian skipper Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma in a recent conference stated that India is been growing well in the terms of good cricket and denies the fact that the blues are playing any ‘conservative cricket.

“We haven’t got the results in the World Cups but that doesn’t mean we were playing bad cricket for so many years, I don’t agree that we were playing conservative cricket,” Rohit said ahead of the T20I series against West Indies, starting on Friday (July 29).

However, Rohit acknowledged that the players now have the opportunity to “play freely.” The way India approached their batting in the most recent T20I series—against South Africa at home and England away—was indicative of some of that mental shift. In the six games, they scored one run over 200 and struck a few 190s and 170s as a definite trend appeared showing a new and more brash batting approach. In Rohit’s opinion, India must exercise patience before finding a consistent pattern of performance.

“If you lose an odd game in the World Cup, it seems we were doing things wrong and we didn’t take chances. But if you look [at it], we won probably 80% [71%] of our games leading into the World Cup. If you are conservative, you won’t win these many games,” he added.
