Vi emerges as the fastest mobile operator over 4G during Q3 2020: Ookla
According to a report by network analyst firm Ookla, Vi (previously known as Vodafone Idea) emerged as the fastest mobile operator over 4G in India during Q3 2020, while Reliance Jio had the highest 4G availability among top service providers at 99.7% during the same quarter.
As per the report, Hyderabad had the fastest mean download speed over mobile at 14.35 Mbps, followed by Mumbai (13.55 Mbps) and Visakhapatnam (13.40 Mbps), reflecting data speeds vary among the largest cities in the country.
Ookla noted that the average download speeds over mobile networks in the nation witnessed a year-over-year rise of 11.6%.
As per the report:
• Vi – 13.74 Mbps average download speed and 6.19Mbps average upload speed
• Airtel – 13.58Mbps average download speed and 4.15Mbps average upload speed
• Jio – 9.71Mbps download and 3.41Mbps upload speed
The network analyst firm noted that India had the highest 4G availability among the largest South Asian countries during the third quarter with over 93% of tested locations showing 4G available, followed by Bangladesh and Pakistan.
India witnessed an 11.6% increase while Pakistan’s mean mobile download speeds rose by more than 24% during the same period.
“Upload speeds remained mostly flat across South Asia’s largest countries, with only Pakistan showing a slight improvement year over year,” Ookla said.
