Ranbir Kapoor’s Shamshera tanks on Day 1; movie struggles to gain any profits

The high-budget masala movie Shamshera, which stars Ranbir Kapoor for the  is struggling at the theatres. On its first day of release, the movie only made about Rs 10 crore, which is a poor showing considering that it reportedly cost Rs 150 crore to produce. Shamshera may potentially debut to a lesser amount than Samrat Prithviraj, YRF’s other renowned box office disaster of 2022, which brought in only Rs 10.7 crore on its first day of release.

Mumbai and the mass markets have both seen the movie perform noticeably less than expected, according to Box Office India. With almost 4000 theatres showing Shamshera, the second-widest release of the post-pandemic era, day one occupancy has been extremely low. It will be challenging for the movie to finish with a decent sum given its difficult road ahead and the fewer than favourable reviews.

According to a tweet from Komal Nahta, a film trade analyst, some screenings of the movie had to be cancelled due to poor attendance.

“Dull Shamshera opening plunges the already nervous Hindi film trade into a further state of panic! Unfortunately, collections of the big film are small!” he wrote. He added, “Another big film… but the same story continues! Shows of Shamshera in the morning and noon/afternoon at some cinemas cancelled due to absence of audience.”
