“Missed the gold medal by a whisker,” says Union Minister Anurag Thakur after Sanket Sargar wins silver medal in the Commonwealth Games

Union Minister for I&B and Youth Affairs & Sports Anurag Thakur congratulated Sanket Sargar after he clinched silver medal in the commonwealth games under the category of Men’s 55kg.

Anurag Thakur also mentioned that India as a nation, represented by Sanket Sargar missed a chance to win the Gold medal as we were almost close.

At the Commonwealth Games 2022, Sanket Mahadev Sargar of India won a silver medal in the 55 kg weight division with a total weight of 248 kg. This is India’s first medal at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games

The 21-year-old was poised to win the gold, but two unsuccessful attempts ended his chances. He placed second after lifting a total of 248kg (113kg, 135kg).

Weightlifter Mohamad Aniq from Malaysia won the gold by lifting 249 kg (107kg 142kg). Dilanka Isuru Kumara of Sri Lanka lifted 225 kg (105 kg, 120 kg), winning the bronze.
