Microsoft says xCloud gaming not coming to iOS, accuses Apple of treating gaming apps unfairly
Microsoft Corp’s xCloud streaming game service wouldn’t arrive on the iOS devices on September 15 and the Satya Nadella-led enterprise has also blamed Apple’s App Store restrictions for this.
The US giant has accused the Cupertino-headquartered company of treating gaming apps in an unfair manner while allowing other media services to existing on the platform even when they include interactive content.
According to a news report by The Verge, Microsoft was only able to make the game – ‘TestFlight, Halo: The Master Chief Collection’ – available and that’s limited to 10,000 people, and each could only play one game.
Microsoft’s Project xCloud preview TestFlight period has ended on iOS, sources said.
The iPhone maker earlier stated these kinds of cloud gaming services violate the App Store guidelines.
Apple Inc, in a statement to Business Insider, asserted these gaming services cannot ever exist on iOS in their current forms.
“Our customers enjoy great apps and games from millions of developers, and gaming services can absolutely launch on the App Store as long as they follow the same set of guidelines applicable to all developers, including submitting games individually for review, and appearing in charts and search,” Apple said in a statement.
For Android users, Microsoft will reportedly launch its much-anticipated game streaming service xCloud on September 15 in over 20 countries.
It is to be noted that South Korea is the only Asian country for the xCloud’s worldwide launch. However, India isn’t part of the list as of now.
