Mavenir to launch Smart City In Thailand equipped with 5G open RAN on mmWave Private Network
Telecom/Tech Leviathan, Mavenir has teamed up with Thailand’s National Telecom Public Company Ltd., 5GCT a local partner specializing in delivering end-to-end 5G smart cities, and CISCO Systems (Thailand) to launch the first-ever 5G Open Radio Access Network (RAN) Smart City in Ban Chang, Thailand, on a millimeter-wave private network.
Mavenir claims that a cloud-native, open architecture-based private network solution comprising 5G open RAN, mm-wave radios, and 5G core with open API technology standards to enable state-run telco TOT to 5G.
The software-based platform further allowed the transformation of mobile communication private network into a virtualized environment where devices, applications, and services can run on an automated network using open architecture, containers, and Artificial Intelligence, as per a statement given by them.
And at the same time, CISCO provided switching hardware and application services to enable “smart” components of the 5G solution. The mmWave spectrum is ideally suited for a network operating the Internet of Things (IoT) sensor, drones, smart poles, and other applications which require fast data uplink to the core for real-time analysis and city management, the statement added.
Aniruddho Basu, Gm of Emerging Business unit, Mavenir stated that “Connectivity is at the heart of its development- connecting people, communities, government services, and private sector services through local government data combined with new data acquired through the IoT sensors, drones, and externally collected data, to fully analyze it for proper city management and citizen knowledge”.
“The partnership with Mavernir as an infrastructure provider enables us to deliver robust, secure, and reliable 5G private network infrastructure across enterprises, including smart city applications, Industry 4.0 applications- automated industry, and modern medicine”, commented Shannon Khalayanamitr, CEO at 5GCT.
Taweewat Chantaraseno, Managing Director, CISCO Systems, Thailand and Indochina, also added, “With the partnership with Mavenir and CISCO Connected Communities Infrastructure (CCI), the host of a smart city can create a single, secure, communications network to support all needs that are simpler to deploy and manage from end-to-end visibility, ranging from smart kiosks and outdoor Wi-Fi to outdoor smart street lighting, parking, waste and more”.
