Apple’s Highly Expensive Audio Devices won’t support Apple Music’s Lossless feature

A piece of good news for the fellow Audiophiles and a piece of bad news for the Airpods Fan base.

In the recent turn of events, the Tech Giant ‘Apple’ has announced two new features for Apple Music to enhance the audio experience of their subscribers. According to Apple, their self-developed Music streaming app, ‘Apple Music’ will start offering lossless audio and spatial audio with Dolby Atmos from Early June. However, there is a piece of bad news for Airpods, AirPods Pro, and Airpods Max usersIt has been reported that the best earphones/headphones from the company won’t be supporting the lossless audio feature.

Apple AirPods Max (Apple’s one of a kind highly expensive headphone) to not get a Lossless Audio update

To be honest, none of the Apple Audio devices will support lossless audio. The Apple Airpods, Airpods Pro and Airpods Max, neither will get the lossless audio feature update. The report suggests that Apple’s existing audio devices will not be able to receive the ultra-clear lossless audio, because the hardware available on the existing devices is not compatible with the feature.

Apple claims that the lossless audio feature encaptures the audio detail as it is recorded at the time of production. It provides high-quality audio in a bigger file size, usually, the normal audio file ranges from 16 bit 44.1 kHz playback to 24 bit 48 kHz playback. On the contrary, Hi-Res Lossless Audio comes with 24 bit at 192 kHz.

As per Apple’s official blog post, Apple Music offers a catalog of over 75 million songs available in lossless audio. The company claims that it uses ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) to take care of every single bit of the original audio file. In simple terms, it means the Apple Music subscribers will be able to listen to the same music which was created by the artists in the recording studio.

The icing on the cake would be to state that Apple Airpods, Airpods Pro, Airpods Max uses Bluetooth AAC codec when paired with an iPhone and it doesn’t support ALAC format which makes it incompatible with the Lossless audio feature. The connectivity codec will not be able to transfer the full quality files to all three audio devices. it seems that Apple needs to think about this and launch an audio device that supports this amazing feature.
