Fujitsu and Trend Micro are Working on Improving the Security of Private 5G Networks
Fujitsu and Trend Micro have been working together to concentrate on private 5G network stability. Before the product is available publicly, businesses can show how powerful Trend Micro Safety is for private 5G with virtual smart factory environments and an operational Fujitsu environment.
Private 5G network infrastructure is the catalyst for truly intelligent factories worldwide. Connectiveness and automation connect factory and business machines, enhance manufacturing capability and improve the overall efficiency of factories. However, extended IT infrastructure will contribute to the exposure of risk of cyber attacks within operational technology (OT) environments. Cybersecurity safeguards are urgently needed to defend private 5G networks from future threats.
The 5G protection solution of Trend Micro, which simulates an actual smart factory environment fitted with high-definition surveillance cameras and automatic led vehicles (AGV) at the Kawasaki Fujitsu Cooperation Lab in Japan, has been included in Fujitsu and Trend Micro’s 5G private scheme. In this environment the state and safety of the networks as well as the corresponding hazard identification and protection details of equipment and network are visualised and centrally managed.
Trend Micro Mobile Network Encryption, the security approach, leverages embedded endpoint security on a private 5G system within a SIM card of an IoT computer and network protection. Product benefits include:
- Detecting and protecting the 5G private network from risks
- Link computers to 5G Network Authenticate
- Block illegal real-time contact
This reveals how the Trend Micro approach defends intelligent factories against domestic threats (i.e. non-authorized or malware-infected devices), and external threats to the factory through 5G networks.
Tomonori Goto, Executive Director, Senior Vice Chair and Head of Fujitsu’s 5G vertical business office, said that Fujitsu intends to develop a company where individuals, products, and services are linked to the world in real time through 5G technology. To this end, they conclude that along with Trend Micro, this safety approach represents an important technology for the use of private 5Gs in mission critics. In cooperation with Trend Micro, Fujitsu will continue to build new value with the force of co-creation.
“We’re delighted to be joining forces with Fujitsu to tackle the immense challenge of cybersecurity for private 5G,” said Akihiko Omikawa, executive vice president for Trend Micro. “Together, we are making smart manufacturing more secure to ensure production isn’t stopped due to a cyberattack.”
