Police in Delhi’s Vijay Chowk detained a large number of Congress members, including Rahul Gandhi of Wayanad, for holding a protest against the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) interrogation of Sonia Gandhi, the party’s interim president.
Rahul and other Congress members gathered at Vijay Chowk and marched to the Rashtrapati Bhawan to alert the President to the alleged misconduct of government agencies.
They attempted to march toward Rashtrapati Bhavan but were halted by the police.
“All (Congress) MPs came here (Delhi). They talked about inflation, unemployment. They (Police) are not allowing us to sit here. Discussions are not allowed inside (the Parliament) and here they are arresting us,” Rahul told media before being detained.
He further alleged that “India is a police state, Modi is a king.” Rahul also said discussions were not being allowed in Parliament.
“Look at the dictatorship, cannot hold peaceful demonstrations, cannot discuss inflation and unemployment. By misusing the police and agencies, even by arresting us, you will never be able to silence us. Only ‘Truth’ will end this dictatorship.” -Tweeted by Rahul Gandhi.
