Supreme Court refuses father’s plea in choosing a doctor for daughter’s postmortem in Kallakurichi death case

The Supreme Court on Thursday turned down a petition from the dearly departed girl’s father asking for the panel of experts conducting a new post-mortem on the body to include a doctor of his preference. The appeal was connected to the death of a 17-year-old girl in Tamil Nadu’s Kallakurichi district. On July 13, the girl’s body was discovered in a residential school.

The AIADMK office reopened Thursday in Chennai amidst tight security, more than a week after the state revenue department sealed it off due to fighting between two competing factions in the party. On July 11, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the former chief minister who was chosen as the interim general secretary, received a request from the Madras High Court that the government provide him the keys to the building.

National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) chairperson Priyank Kanoongo tweeted “I will be visiting Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu on 27 July to inquire into the case of suspicious death of a girl child in residential school.”
