Zoom rolls out end-to-end encryption feature: Here’s what we know so far

Video calling app Zoom has announced its new end-to-end encryption (E2EE) feature that would be available for its free and paid users worldwide. It will be available in video meetings with up to 200 participants.

“We’re very proud to bring Zoom’s new end-to-end encryption to Zoom users globally today,” said Zoom Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Jason Lee.

The new feature is currently available on Zoom desktop client version 5.4.0 for Mac and PC, the Zoom Android app, and Zoom Rooms. It is in technical preview, which means the US-based company is open to feedback for the new encryption feature for 30 days.

With this, there will be more privacy and security for the Zoom sessions.

When users enable end-to-end encryption for their meets, nobody except each participant will have access to the encryption keys, according to the company.

Account admins are also authorized to enable this new feature in their web dashboard at the account, group, and user level.

The California-based company has engaged with encryption experts, civil liberties organizations, child safety advocates to gather their feedback on this feature.
