Spotlight: Here’s all you need to know about Snapchat’s new TikTok-like feature

Snap Inc launched a feature called ‘Spotlight’ – that is being described as Snapchat’s answer to TikTok – in order to allow users to share short-form videos in its Snapchat app.

Spotlight aims to broaden the connections among Snapchat users by enabling anyone to create a short-form video that gets shared on the platform.

The new Spotlight feature allows users to create videos which can have a length of up to 60 seconds. Like on TikTok, the newly launched feature lets users create or upload a video, add music, captions and use special effects.

The feature is accessible to all Snapchat users, regardless of the number of followers or their popularity on the platform.

“We designed Spotlight to entertain our community while living up to Snapchat values, with our community’s well being as a top priority,” said the company.

The Santa Monica, California-headquartered company would give about $1 million every day to users who will submit the best content.

The American multimedia messaging app faces increasingly intense competition from its competitors, including ByteDance-owned TikTok and Instagram Reels.

As of March 2020, the social media app had over 220 million daily active users. It rose to prominence for its 24-hour disappearing messages almost a decade ago.
