Reliance Jio in India came as game changer in telecom sector last year which outshined every other company’s offer and plans .Over 10% of market share and around 130 million people in India brought Jio sim for free.
Jio brought a drastic change by providing free voice calling and free 4G internet for the first 6 months for its users. Thereafter, from April 1 The Company started charging for data, but at much lower rates than its rivals. But that wasn’t the end of its reign. This year the company came up with a new plan. Jio is going to launch its first ever 4Gfeature phone which is known as Jio Phone. This is specially built for the people who wish to switch to a Smartphone but find it difficult to do so. A Smartphone from a reputed company would cost them more than 5000 bucks which is difficult for them to afford. But Jio will be providing them the 4G feature phone for an effective price of Rs 0.
According to the reports, over 60% of India’s mobile users use phones that have only basic features of calling and texting. This phone will be especially helpful for these people to know more about Internet and social media.
Recently an order came from telecom regulators that hit Jio’s rival finances. Last month, the regulator more than halved the interconnect usage charge (IUC) to 6 paise per minute from the current 14 paise per minute. It would be brought down to 0 Paisa till 2020.
Jio would be directly benefited if it reduces its IUC payout. There are more outgoing calls made to subscribers of larger operators such as Vodafone, Airtel or Idea.
But Jio is all set to fight to fight over IUC, this time over international calls. It is planning to slash international call rates to 6 paise a minute, and then to zero. For the same the company has called upon the telecom regulator.
The rivalry between Jio and other companies has gained heat due to the revenue of around 5000 crore from international calls, most of which are terminated on the network of Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea.
Jio is all set to overtake Vodafone India to become India’s second biggest operator in terms of subscribers in urban areas says the report of IIFL. If the same continues, the day is not far when Jio will emerge as a leader in telecommunication sector.
