In the recent trial, Vodafone Idea has successfully tested 5G Voice Over New Radio with their technology partner, Nokia. This successful demonstration would facilitate the Vi users to make high-definition calls using an upgraded 5G network.
Vi is using the comprehensive portfolio of solutions provided by Nokia, including their 5G core, AirScale 5G RAN, IMS voice core. These solutions are meant to provide a better core experience on a reliable low latency & 5G network which can be utilized for both data services.
Jagbir Singh, CTO, Vodafone Idea Ltd, said the company is working on solutions to offer enhanced network experience & use relevant cases to consumers & digital enterprises during 5G trials. With the successful demonstration of 5G VoNR, our users will be able to get high quality 5G network experience.
Vodafone Idea has recently partnered with Ericsson and started trials in Pune, with its vendors to explore & develop new cases of the 5G network. With today’s announcement, it’s evident that the telco is moving fast with 5G trials & will deploy once the spectrum is available.
However, the date for the spectrum auction is still unclear. K Rajaraman, Secretary, TRAI, had said the recommendations would be sent by March 2022 & in two months, the spectrum auction would take place. Rajaraman had basically said that by May of this year, the government could hold the 5G spectrum auctions. But nothing is confirmed for now.
