Net-neutrality comments submission deadline extended by Trai

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has extended the last date for receiving comments from stakeholders on its pre-consultation paper on net neutrality from June 21 to July 5, 2016.
“On request from the stakeholders, the last date for receipt of written comments, if any, from the stakeholders has been extended up to 5th July 2016,” Trai said in a statement.
The paper is expected to cover a lot of issues related to free-internet economy and would also define policy framework between OTT players and telcos.
Trai has partially addressed the issue of net neutrality such as discriminatory pricing of data services through a separate consultation paper. The regulator is also in the process of exploring model for providing free Internet without violating its order banning discriminatory pricing of data service offered over the Internet.
