Pulse oximeters are playing an important role in all our lives during these crucial days. In fact, it will not be wrong to say that oximeters have now become more important than the smartphones nowadays. Unfortunately, due to rise in demand, manufacturers have increased prices of this important health device. Hence, if you want to buy a good oximeter these days, be sure to spend at least Rs 2,000 and more on it. If you can’t do that, a Kolkata based health startup has launched a mobile application to replace oximeter , and is effective.
The health startup has launched this mobile application called CarePlix Vital’s that can monitor and analyze your pulse, blood oxygen level and respiration rates. To use the mobile application, all you need to do is place a finger on the smartphone’s front camera and flashlight and within seconds, the oxygen saturation (SpO2), pulse and respiration rates will be displayed on the device , says the reports at Indian Express.
Subhabrata Paul, who is the Co-Founder CareNow Healthcare told the publication that, “People needed a pulse oximeter or similar wearables such as a smartwatch to get their vitals such as oxygen saturation and pulse rate. The underlying technology in all of this is photoplethysmography or PPG ” .
The CarePlix Vital’s application is a registration based application. It is said that, application’s algorithm helps in knowing the strength of finger placement i.e., the stronger the finger placement, more accurate readings will be .In 40 seconds, the reading is displayed and with the aid of internet connection, the readings can be saved on cloud for keeping the record, the report says.
Paul highlights by stating that , with doctors in the hospital, the trials were majorly conducted in the OPD. Comparisons were taken out to test the apt accuracy and it was found – CarePlix Vital was 96% accurate with heart beats while 98 percent accuracy in case of showing the oxygen saturation.
